Internationally exhibited artist Lauren Baker lights up the universe

It has often been said that travel broadens the mind, but for multidisciplinary artist Lauren Baker, a life-changing trip to South America was the springboard to a hugely successful international career.

Lauren’s work explores human connection, metaphysics and the expansiveness of the universe. Her signature neon works portray the power of energy through her poetic typographic and celestial chakra artworks.

Lauren, who is among TAP Galleries' talented roster of artists, uses light to express the secrets of the universe, aiming to raise the vibration of love and connection within the world, and her recent works visually interpret unseen energy.

She is renowned for using reflective material in her works, including the world’s first infinity mirror coffin at Tate Britain, a seven-foot mirrored geometric ‘Portal to another dimension’, commissioned by Clerkenwell Design Week, and 100 mirror eyes attached to 50-foot trees in the forest at Unknown Festival, Croatia. Her most intricate project was a Steinway grand piano encrusted with half a million crystals.

Following the success of her workshop and skull art installation at the Tate Modern in July 2012, Lauren was invited by Tate Britain to host a large-scale interactive installation, turning part of the institution into a forest and creating the world’s first infinity mirror coffin as part of her modern deconstruction of John Everett Millais' ‘Ophelia’ painting.

Lauren's passion for environmental issues and sustainability came to the fore in 2014, when The Crystal Tigress - a sculpted, life-size tiger head encrusted with 52,000 crystals toured Asia and was endorsed by Jimmy Choo and Jaime Winstone - fetched £30,000 at a charity auction for Save Wild Tigers.

The same year Lauren curated THRIVE, an exhibition of 20 contemporary artists at the Sanderson in London, and auctioned in aid of Save Wild Tigers at the Mango Tree tiger dinner, raising £62,000 for the Born Free Foundation and the Environmental Investigation Agency.

Lauren says her inspiration comes from the "vastness of the universe and all its unknown possibilities and environmental sustainability". Soo Turner, founder of TAP Galleries, said: "a sense of mystery and emergence - of connecting with something beyond or much bigger than our own immediate world - pulsates throughout her work."
